Sometimes I hear this from readers:
“I’m unhappy with how things are. I really want to start my blog/business/career transition, but I’m just not motivated. Can you motivate me?”
Short answer: no. Here’s why:
When you say you’re not motivated, what you’re really saying is that you’re not ready.
You’re not ready to be uncomfortable.
You’re not ready to take risks.
You’re not ready to fail.
You’re not ready to succeed.
You’re not ready to find out who you are
or what you’re really made of.
You’re not ready to trade in your fantasy for reality.
You’re not ready to do the work.
You’re not ready to take action in the face of fear.
Motivation is a like a feeling, and feelings come and go.
Ever “felt motivated” to start something new but never saw it through?
Motivation might get you hot, but it doesn’t take you home.
So don’t worry about being motivated.
Instead, get ready.
When you’re ready…
You’ll be ok with being uncomfortable.
You’ll take risks.
You’ll fail and fail and fail and still keep going.
You’ll be open to succeeding.
You’ll find out who you are
and what you’re really made of, and you’ll love it.
You’ll leave your comfy fantasy behind, and march towards reality.
You’ll do the work. There may be obstacles, but you’ll do it, anyway.
You’ll take action even though you’re afraid.
Motivation, your excitement for accomplishment, will ebb and flow. But when you’re ready, you’ll know.
